Tebow Time In America

Tebow Time In America

By Anthony Scaperrotta on January 27th, 2012

This past NFL season has been a roller coaster ride with results of excitement some football fans could only have dreamt. One in particular is the story of Denver Bronco QB Tim Tebow. The story which began to sweep the nation on October 9th, 2011 with Tim Tebow making his season debut. This was not Tim's first time playing QB in the NFl, He had played in 4 games in the 2010 season but was not the starter at that time. He played behind the Denver Bronco's (at that time) starting QB Kyle Orton. Orton however did start the Bronco's 2011 season at QB but was not wanted by the fans. Bronco's fans cheered more for Tebow as he sat on the sideline as they did for Orton on the field. It was not until week 3 that Tebow got his chance to shine when Denver Broncos head coach John Fox pulled Orton to give Tebow a shot to put together a win against their division rival San Diego Chargers. Although the Bronco's lost that overtime contest 29-24, With Tebow going 4 of 10 for 79 passing yards fans and Bronco nation still had faith in the 24 year old Florida Gator graduate. In weeks 4 and 5 they spilt the two games with a win and a loss a win over the Miami Dolphins and a loss to the Detroit Lions. Then lashed back in streaks with wins against the Raiders, Chiefs, Jets, Chargers, Vikings and Bears where Tebow accumulated 878 passing yards. When asked if it was Tebow time he responded "I don't think its Tebow time, I just this it's Bronco time."Could that have been their rally cry which put together their success? Or was it Tebow's ability to scramble in the pocket, make moves and make tacklers miss and run? It was hard to believe that Tebow was winning games throwing for only 69 pass yards as he did against the Kansa City Chiefs. The Broncos finished their season with losses to the New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills and the Kansas City Chiefs. They did however win their division that final week with an Oakland Raiders loss and for the first time since 2005 were going into the playoffs. They faced off with the Pittsburg Steelers at Mile High Stadium in the AFC wild card playoff round where they won in overtime on Tebow's play action slant to WR Demarius Thomas, Tebow went 10 of 21 for 316 pass yards this was a career best for him. This was a huge upset with the Broncos coming in as 9 point underdogs Tebow once again put a cork into the mouth of his critics. The Broncos moved onto the AFC Divisional round to face the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium where they were routed by the Pat's 45-10. After the game Tebow was interviewed and spoke upon the positives as opposed to the negatives and spoke upon his season as a learning experience. Some may say when asked why Tim Tebow is so popular you may hear about how he puts his team first and never gives himself credit but gives the other participates involved credit for good outcomes. Or maybe some would tell you it was his humbleness and respect for the sport of football is what won over their hearts. Respect meaning he never talks trash and respects his team on the field. This respect between his teammates and his could be seen on the field throughout the season. Or maybe it was the art of Tebowing that took over the world with people all over Tebowing. At work, at school, during sports events and at parties you name it people were Tebowing all over. Or maybe it was his love and open expression of religious views that made him popular with fans. Whatever Tim Tebow's claim to popularity may have been some may not no, But in his fans hearts it will always be Tebow Time.
